ABPI backs call for cross-government strategy on health inequalities

Representatives from the Inequalities in Health Alliance (IHA), of which ABPI is a member, have today written to the Prime Minister calling for a cross-government strategy on the issue.

Su Jones, ABPI representative on the Inequalities in Health Alliance (IHA) said:

"As members of the IHA, the ABPI fully supports a cross-government strategy to tackle the growing problem of health inequalities.

"We see the development of Integrated Care Systems as hugely positive in enabling all parts of the system to work together to prevent disease and improve the health of the populations they serve, rather than just treating illness.

"However, system change also needs to be supported by integrated policy approaches to address the broader determinants of health inequality such as housing, education and skills. This is essential if we are to reverse the trend of the last decade and create a healthy population that can contribute fully to future UK prosperity."
