Northern Ireland Protocol: Our response to additional guidance
The UK has published additional information related to the operation of the Northern Ireland Protocol in a new policy paper, Moving goods under the Northern Ireland Protocol.
With less than five months until the end of Transition, our members still do not have the legal certainty or the practical details they need in order to guarantee an uninterrupted supply of medicines to people in Northern Ireland from 2021. David Watson
The Government has reconfirmed its commitment to giving businesses the information and support needed to get ready for these changes at the end of the transition period on 31 December 2020.
In particular, the Government says it will establish a new Trader Support Service to provide an end-to-end service guiding traders through all import processes, including handling digital import and safety and security declarations on their behalf, at no additional cost.
In response, David Watson, Interim Executive Director of Commercial Policy at the ABPI said
“Despite today’s guidance from the Government, there is still no further detail relating to medicines. With less than five months until the end of Transition, our members still do not have the legal certainty or the practical details they need in order to guarantee an uninterrupted supply of medicines to people in Northern Ireland from 2021."
