The purpose of PBPK modelling is to aid efficient quantitative mechanistic understanding of pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) behaviour of a drug and metabolites, and subsequently through simulation facilitate improved design of both studies and drug development programs, and to enable decisions to be made, with sufficient confidence, about scenarios that have not been tested experimentally.
