The Sentinel Project - Collaborating to Improve Asthma Care

This project will run from February 2021 to February 2023 and both parties have contributed resources for this initiative.
Project Aims and Objectives
- The Joint Working Project will focus on improving asthma care across 5 PCNs, focusing on the following areas
- HCP and Patient Education
- Pharmacy Alignment
- Patient review
- Evidence
- System Implementation
- Any treatment changes as part of this project will be made by clinicians in accordance with the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Guideline for the treatment of Adult Asthma.
Achievements & Milestones
- SENTINEL implementation led to reduced SABA prescribing. Currently an estimated 44,275 fewer blue inhalers issued for the treatment of asthma.
- This is equivalent to a saving of 1,240 metric tonnes CO2e
- The results from SENTINEL have led to the development of the SENTINEL Plus initiative, to deliver similar intervention across the UK.
- Currently Sentinel Plus has been offered to over 300 Primary Care Networks
