Colette Goldrick, the ABPI's Executive Director, Strategy, Research & Partnerships welcomed the news.
“Throughout the pandemic we’ve seen the extraordinary value a research active NHS can deliver.
“The Health and Care Bill provides a once-in-a-decade opportunity to embed research at the heart of the NHS, and we’re delighted to see that the Government has tabled amendments to put this ambition on a statutory footing.
“With these changes, the Bill can improve the opportunities for patients across the country to participate in potentially life changing research and transform the lives of patients. If coupled with the right support and resourcing across the NHS, this can help to make the UK a destination of choice for cutting edge clinical research.”
The ABPI, along with organisations from across the medical, patient and life sciences communities, advocated for a strengthened research mandate to be included in the Health and Care Bill. You can find out more here.
