ABPI response to EU transparency mechanism for COVID-19 vaccines exports

The European Commission has announced a transparency and authorisation mechanism for exports of COVID-19 vaccines.

Companies are working as fast as they can to scale up supply for everyone around the world.  Restrictions will slow this progress and we urge all Governments to avoid them. Richard Torbett

In response Richard Torbett, Chief Executive of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, said:

“Introducing any kind of export restrictions on manufacturers distributing COVID19 vaccines means we are trying to fight the pandemic with our hands tied behind our backs.

“Global supply chains are absolutely vital – whether for moving around components of medicines and vaccines or finished products – and they must be allowed to operate unimpeded.

“Companies are working as fast as they can to scale up supply for everyone around the world. Restrictions will slow this progress and we urge all Governments to avoid them.”
