Every day, our members partner with healthcare professionals, academics and patient organisations to find new solutions to unmet health needs.
Job purpose and background
Over the course of the one-year contract, the Government Affairs Executive will support the delivery of the ABPI’s public affairs programme, including lead on external engagement and political monitoring and analysis.
Primary objectives/ responsibilities
External stakeholder engagement and monitoring
- The Government Affairs Executive will be responsible for developing and delivering the ABPI’s external engagement strategy, covering:
- Identifying key stakeholders and delivering a robust outreach programme. This may include leading Parliamentary meetings and managing relationships directly.
- Producing bespoke briefings and analysis.
- Monitoring Parliamentary activity (e.g. Select Committee inquiries), identifying engagement opportunities and co-ordinating the ABPI’s response.
- Assisting with the running of the Life Sciences APPG
- Managing alignment between the ABPI and sister associations, as well as regional groups representing its members.
- Supporting high-level Government engagements for the Chief Executive
- Designing and delivering the ABPI’s Annual Parliamentary reception and Party Conference programme.
- Designing and delivering a programme of work to support the ABPI’s General Election preparation.
Wider support
In addition, the Government Affairs Executive will provide wider support to the ABPI team. This will include:
- Liaising closely with the Communications team, policy teams and the Chief Executive.
- Supporting the ABPI’s Member engagement.
- Ad hoc research tasks.
- Working closely with the Chief Executive’s PA to help support and maximise their meeting programme.
Experience and skill set
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and demonstrable skills:
Desirable experience
- Experience working directly in Parliament.
- A knowledge of the health or life sciences sector.
- Event management experience.
Experience and skill set
- Education to degree level
Excellent knowledge of Westminster, Whitehall, and the political environment. - Experience working in a related role.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent administrative skills and strong project management experience.
- Ability to self-start.
- Demonstrable experience of team working.
Performance criteria
